Heavy Metal Analysis

Uncovering a metal's character, its heat treatment condition, its microstructure, the process by which it was formed, and whether it conforms to necessary specifications, requires metallurgical analysis. The laboratory's metallurgical engineers and technicians combine their chemical and metallurgical expertise to deliver rapid and accurate analyses.

Additionally, the metallurgical staff performs micro and macro examinations to detect, identify, and resolve specification issues.

Bali Test House is fully equipped to perform qualitative and quantitative analysis of almost all the known elements in the periodic table, be it metals, non-metals or alloys. Spectrometer(OES) employs both traditional techniques, i.e. Wet chemical methods as well as instrumentation techniques for conducting the analyses.

All precious and rare metals are now possible to be analyzed by these techniques. Hazardous/toxic elements and restricted substances, like Pb, Cd, Hg and total Cr are analyzed by the aforementioned techniques in samples like plastics, toys and rubbers, in order to see their compliance with various national and international regulatory authorities.

We provide Metal and Alloy testing services.Under this testing service, we use following equipment to test the metals:

Microstructure Evaluations: Grain size determination, Inclusion Rating, Decarburization Depth, Case Depth, Nodularity, heat treatment condition, porosity measurement, micro structural constituents and Volume Fraction; Plating Evaluation and Plating thickness.

Macro Examination: Welded joints, forged components, brazed joints.

Toxicology

  • Lead has a very low acute toxicity. Most essential long-term effects are its neurotoxicity for infants and its effects on the cardiovascular tissue of adults.
  • Cadmium is primarily nephrotoxic and may cause bone demineralisation.
  • Mercury mainly occurs as methyl mercury in fish and seafood, and is extremely toxic on the nervous system. Other foods usually contain less toxic inorganic mercury.
  • Arsenic also occurs in organic and inorganic compounds, of which the latter is clearly more toxic and may cause cancer of skin, lungs and the urinary tract.

Regulatory bodies around the world have set maximum limits for lead, cadmium and mercury in different food groups such as meat, fish, seafood, cereals, vegetables, fruits and products thereof, fats and oils, milk, baby food and infant formulae.
